mediaCORE™ - Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau

futureLAB provided photo and media archive system for the Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau.

futureLAB won the open request for proposals issued for an “image information system” by the Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau in 2009. The aim was to find a solution that manages and stores all incoming police images in a central archive system. In addition, it should be possible to easily perform image-related police work through the new image information system. Last but not least, the system should be compliant with the IDAG system (which is a standard for public information, duty of secrecy, and archive management). The project started with the signature of the contract in July 2009. The productive system was launched, on schedule and fully tested with all requested modifications in March 2010.

futureLAB’s software mediaCORE™ was applied for this project. Some interfaces and adjustments had to be made in order to be able to fulfill all requirements of the Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau. For example, key interfaces to the report system “RAPOL” and the crime information system “ABI” were implemented.

mediaCORE™ allows both automatic resumption of case metadata from “RAPOL” and manual recording of them. Then, all respective images are stored in a forgery-proof, access protected and highly redundant manner. Authorized persons can utilize them for any further use. For example, automatically generated Word templates (photo reports) can be made.

Around 650 employees of the Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau daily work with mediaCORE™ and record thousands of cases of hundreds of thousands of images and videos per year. Any access and mutations are centrally and visibly logged for the designated administrators.

High expenses for intensive user training were avoided as well. Two video tutorials, a manual, a brief introduction to 40 key users, and pyramid knowledge transfer allow easy and direct use of the application by all employees without prior knowledge.

futureLAB’s mediaCORE™ is a modularly structured standard solution for the efficient management and archiving of digital media such as images and videos. It can be directly integrated into an existing IT infrastructure and directly linked to present user directories and databases. The modern user interface offered by mediaCORE™ allows for quick and easy working. Even less experienced users can intuitively use the application. For example, they are supported by a practical workflow from left to right, easy to understand tools and drag and drop actions. In addition, intelligent search functions with keywords and full text search facilitate processing of the data.

mediaCORE™ is a web application and works with all popular browsers. Since 2005, the software has been in use by various police corps, public authorities and companies. Examples include the Police Corps of the City of Zurich, Police Corps of the Canton of Basel, Police Corps of the Canton of Aargau, Police Corps of the Canton of Zurich, Building Department of the City of Zurich and Civil Construction Archive of the City of Zurich.
