mediaCORE

mediaCORE is the platform for a cross-departmental image and video management (archiving, administering and processing of media items).

mediaCORE - central media management and access from everywhere

Photo management for police operation

Video management for police operation

In daily job routines, countless images and videos are used within various documents and for other purposes. Thousands of images and videos are often scattered across several servers or even stored on hard disks at local workstations. As a result, access for other users is difficult and data security is insufficiently defined.

mediaCORE supports users in everything from uploading to archiving and exporting media items. It includes fast import of media files with automatic conversion, easy to operate image and video editing tools, extensive case recording and archiving, sharing with authorized users or output as a report, manhunt forms or printing in the police laboratory.

mediaCORE seamlessly integrates into existing IT infrastructures, including accessing to existing user directories and databases.

System Features - Modules

mediaCORE is designed in a very modular way and can be gradually upgraded from an image information system to a comprehensive media management, including videos.

mediaCORE - upgradeable design with modules

Specific modules - "manhunt" and "surveillance" - are available options for police operations.

Your Advantages at a Glance

Cross-departmental and Central Media Management

Central storage of all digital images and videos is especially sensible for larger companies. Redundant media items can be avoided and all users can have easy access to the most current version of a file.  A         central media management improves data continuity. Security is ensured by automatic back-ups.

Fully Browser-based Solution

mediaCORE is tailored to the needs of a location-independent use. Collaboration is supported for media items from a variety of sources, as well as for teams with users who may be spread out in different locations. This increases the productivity of employees.

Convenient User Interface

The sleek mediaCORE user interface allows users to work directly in the browser as if it were a local application. It takes only a couple of minutes to organize, edit or use media – such as the creation of a new case.

Easy-to-use Image and Video Editors

Image manipulations such as cropping, as well as the most important image corrections for color, contrast and brightness are available right in the system. In addition, the sophisticated “auto-correction” of mediaCORE enhances images with just one mouse-click. Videos can be directly played and edited. The “snapshot” feature quickly and easily creates still images from any required part of a video file.

Efficient and Simple Workflow

Intuitive handling and direct publishing of media and case data for investigating sheets are not only for technical specialists, but for all users. In addition to extensive use in the specialized departments such as the police accident service, mediaCORE makes sense wherever images have to be easily managed and distributed. The award-winning user interface was designed to allow for easy operation – even for less experienced users.

Search via Keywords and Full Text Search

The search for images is managed through associated keywords that are added to the respective metadata of images and cases. Extensive and combined queries are supported such as a search for "all accident images" within the category "clear ice". Even whole groups of images can be stored as either “projects” or “cases” and “completed”, along with any extra information needed.

The intelligent "auto-complete" feature automatically searches for predefined entries in the keyword catalog and completes the entry while typing.

Direct Integration

mediaCORE can be directly integrated into existing IT infrastructures. Existing user directories and databases can be easily implemented.

Interface to Report Systems

Further processing of images and data is seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructures. mediaCORE creates instant reports, manhunt forms and prints. Files such as in PDF or MS Word formats are generated according to customer-specific templates.

Security and Rights Management

Access rights, automatic compliance with deletion periods, high data security and integrity through digital signatures and encryption of data are possible at all levels. mediaCORE allows definition of access rights  for single users, user groups or for all users. User databases or directories existing within the organization can be integrated for this process. As a result, existing departmental structures can be easily used for the selective granting of access rights. Their implementations are subject to the most up-to-date security standards such as encryption of sensitive login information.

In mediaCore, images are digitally signed to prevent forgery and are protected by strict access control over the management rights. mediaCore supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) – thus communication between browser and server is protected against manipulation and is encrypted as well, so data cannot be eavesdropped.

Media Workflow in Detail

Capturing Media

mediaCORE supports all standard image formats and cameras - supported image formats (among others): JPG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, and some camera RAW formats.

Even video sequences captured by photo cameras or videos by surveillance cameras are not a problem. Video format conversion is automatically performed, if needed, with no user interaction needed. Supported video formats (among others): AVI, 3G2, 3GP, M4V and MJPEG. Supported codecs (among others): H.264, AVC, MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 Part 10 and WMV - more details about supported formats and codecs.

Import of several images as compressed file in .ZIP or .TAR format is also possible.

Capturing Media

Photos and videos can be directly read and imported from the camera.

mediaCORE - uploading images from hard disk or browser

As soon as the camera is plugged into the computer, the uploader detects it and automatically opens the input mask for uploading. Media items can also be uploaded as compressed files (.ZIP). After import, mediaCORE automatically extracts them in the background and displays them on the user interface.

Alternatively, images can be imported by e-mail. mediaCORE automatically receives and displays attached media files on the user interface.

Images from smartphones or PDAs can be directly delivered. This feature is particularly interesting to employees in the field.

An HTML-based selection tool is available for uploading single images and one for uploading several images.

Editing Media

Intuitive Use - the ergonomic user interface is based on natural workflow needs.

mediaCORE - the personal light table

Uploaded photos and videos appear in the left section that can be easily managed. Incoming data are automatically arranged on the left in a chronological order grouped by year, month, and day.

The light table workbench offers intuitive use of tools such as “share media” or “enlarged view”. These tools are easily configurable and adjustable.

All processing options are listed in “actions”. Thus, media can be easily organized, processed, archived, printed or sent as documents.

Easy use of the light table - the mediaCORE light table is very easy to use and is adaptable to the user.

mediaCORE - individualized views at the light table

The selection of photos or videos is done with a mouse click. Either one image or several images can be selected. The preview images are calculated "on the fly" and displayed in whatever requested size, as very large or small thumbnails.

A still video image is generated as a thumbnail for videos. The total window can be dynamically scaled to the size that it fits on the screen - ideal for loads of images and bigger screens.

The sorting order can be specified by the user. Specific, context-sensitive settings can be determined per image or an entire selection.

The key functions, such as rotating images, are directly implemented by selecting the image and click on the rotate button. Of course, this is done without any quality loss and at high speed.

Comfortable image editor - the image editor has access to a complete suite of image editing tools for correction or improvements of images.

mediaCORE - editing images: select image corrections

Alternatively, users can leave the corrections to mediaCORE by choosing the auto-correction feature. Originals always remain unchanged.

All the actions taken are tagged to the original media file and overlaid when the file is selected. This is particularly important when users always need the originals for the purpose of subsequent evidence or need to reset one of the corrections.

Simple cropping of images - often special crops have to be created to emphasize details.

mediaCORE - editing images: crop images

mediaCORE always saves original images in full resolution so that zooming into details is always possible at good resolution.

Direct playing of videos - video files are displayed in the light table along with the images.

mediaCORE - directly watching videos

Video files are labeled with a corresponding icon. Double-clicking on the thumbnail opens the video player. Videos are directly replayed in its own window.

Provided there is a flash plug-in installed in the browser, the video player directly supports a wide variety of video formats without a previous installation.

Navigation within the video includes “start-stop” or “forwards-backwards” keys, in addition to the navigation controller.

Direct creation of video segments - you can create any requested video sequences or still images of videos.

mediaCORE - create video segments

User-defined video segments are created with the buttons "start-stop» und «create segment».

The created video segments automatically appear as videos on the left side of the light table.

"Snapshot" feature for videos - still images from a video sequence are often needed for further use, such as for images in a manhunt form - for this purpose the ”snapshot” function is used.

mediaCORE - “snapshot“ function for videos

Navigation through the video sequence is simple and users create a snapshot with a simple mouse click. The file name of a snapshot automatically contains the timecode, e.g. “Snapshot 0:00:12” was created 12 seconds into the runtime of the video.

The created video snapshots automatically appear as images on the left side of the light table. Video snapshots can be edited like images and are available for further use, e.g. for creating manhunt forms.
