moveX for futureWALK
futureLAB AG conceived a very special Christmas campaign 2010 "futureWALK" for its customers and partners: a proactive start into the new year with multiple benefits. The idea of this campaign was to offer an innovative platform for encouraging physical activities, including incentives such as price discounts on the one hand, and generating donations for the charity organization Handicap International on the other.
futureWALK - special Christmas campaign 2010 by futureLAB
In Switzerland, a working person does an average of 4,000 steps per day. However, according to WHO, 10,000 steps is the recommended daily step goal needed in order to reach personal well-being and overall performance. The risk of fall injuries and illness demonstrably decreases with physical fitness as well. Therefore, the amount of steps of 10,000 is the core element of the virtual tour.
The futureWALK route started in Winterthur and ended at the 4,478 m high Matterhorn, within a period of 32 days. The futureWALKers registered on the platform to participate and formed teams with individual user profiles. The team captains were able to manage and supervise the team members themselves or to communicate directly with them.
Equipped with a pedometer, each futureWALKer counted the steps in his daily life. Even small changes in a habit such as "using the tram instead by foot to the station” helped participants achieve the daily target. The number of steps was entered into a password-protected activity report. Similarly, other physical activities could be directly entered and were automatically converted into steps by the system. The steps were continuously integrated into the overall team chart, converted to the route and shown on a specially adapted "Google Maps" chart.
Through the display of the actual activities, the futureWALKers experienced Switzerland in a new manner - interesting facts worth knowing, emphasized by videos kindly provided by NZZ Format, could be discovered at 13 way points. For example, close to the final destination, all futureWALKers could virtually climb the world-famous Matterhorn together with the legendary mountain guide Ulrich Inderbinen.
The futureWALK was a great success: more than 50 teams started, more than 20 million steps were generated and as a result, more than 22,000 kilometers. 1 CHF was noted for 10,000 steps per participant and so more than 2,000 CHF could be donated to Handicap International.
Jacqueline Raemy Bessa, Director of Fundraising & Public Relations of Handicap International, commented: “Walking upright! is our mission and thanks to donations like yours we have been able to support victims from mines and explosives, from disasters such as earthquakes and disability from diseases, to walk again and find back to a normal life as much possible, for almost 30 years. You have collected 20 million steps for these victims and we will help many to get the right step back into a "normal" life. Your campaign does not only have “walking” together with ours, but also creativity and initiative. Therefore, we would like to send you our special and sincere thanks and congratulate you for this innovative campaign, also in the name of the organization and our beneficiaries."
In addition, futureLAB now offers the proven platform as the white labeling product. The tagline “encouraging physical activity” can be tailored to specific ideas and objectives, for example to a customer and employee campaign at company’s anniversary. Progressive tools such as live statistics facilitate support, administration and communication for the coordinators. In addition, free choice of the route, any-tier hierarchy and integrated messaging allow a wide range of options for customization.
