Less is More (finally)!
Old words, new meanings. It's about wireless access to control functions and content.
Our vision of the office is that work is done where you are, anyplace, anytime. So while a "desk" has to have a location, no one has to be "at it" to do the work. And importantly, our solution would leave no untethered islands - everything is linked: lighting solutions, entry systems, computers, and phones.
Here's what we have done for ourselves at futureLAB and what we could do for you.
Wireless everywhere it makes sense:
Computing...wirelessly integrated with all the following systems
- Telephony
- Document Scanning
- Entry Systems
- Lighting
With wireless laptops and wireless phones, we always have access to the information, the systems and the people with whom we need to be in touch, inside or near the office. No surprise, our voice mail is sent on as email. Pretty ordinary stuff. But with a caller's telephone number and a database "look up", you can reply via email with your own voice, or write an email if you prefer not to use the phone.
Paper: Use in Case of Emergency!
When your office is anywhere, paper must be converted to electronic documents. The concept of "making a copy" still exists, but your copy is filed in a disk. Incoming paper goes first to the scanner and then the paper goes to the recycle bin. Our white boards are also equipped with electronic capture so that their content is converted to e-docs and saved.
Some paper is needed but most just takes up space.
Doors are opened without keys.
While we could use our laptops, our cellphones make the job easier. Dial the door's number; the calling number that the phone company passes determines if the door is opened (and this could apply to a sequence of doors should you have to go through more than one). More interestingly, as you have identified yourself to the Entry System, this information could be shared with the Lighting system so your office lights are turned on as well. More can be done.
So where's the Light Switch
Light switches are on the wall where you would expect them and control logically the things you would like; life as usual. But when the switches are wireless? Switches can be anywhere and control anything. Even more interesting is when the "switch" is on a mobile device like a laptop. Everyone would have their own personal "switch" with which they can control the relevant appliances and with our version of location awareness, you could see what switches are available and at the top of your list are the controls for the room that your are in!
