Access to e-mail using a client which is based on a web browser instead of a dedicated local client was introduced in the beginning of 1995. The concept was implemented later by Hotmail and was one of the huge success stories of the Internet. The third version is now based on the IMAP protocol.
This allows a very rich functionality like
- organizing messages in folders.
- An address book,
- Auto reply,
- SMS notification,
- Recognition and delivery of binary attachments, etc.
are also implemented in this release delivering one of the most comprehensive implementations of web mail.
