Unified Messaging has fallen short of what it could have become. Something went wrong on the way to the achievement of this simplified messaging solution; either cost, system functionality, integration problems or an unacceptable user interfaces or a combination of all four.

Service Examples:
Web delivered voice mails (or an SMS alert that one is waiting). This is traditional "unified" messaging functionality and it was good. Moreover, it is especially practical when the recipient is not in the same location as the answering device.
Audible Text. You can type your voice announcement (have it played back in the voice of your choice) or it can selectively announce the contents of your calendar for day and time that the caller is interested.
Event Triggers: changes in stock values, intrusion detection, schedule reminders, automatically sending a birthday greeting in a foreign language sent by fax, or an email, and/or letting you know that the plane will be late.
